For those of us who love baking with raisins, (all 5 of us...what is is with people not liking raisins, anyways?!) you know that plump, juicy raisins in the final product is what you are after.

To get those results in your next batch of muffins or your next loaf (this tip isn't recommended for granola bars or oat-type squares), soak your raisins for a few minutes before adding them to your recipe.

    1. Measure out your raisins according to the recipe you are making and put them into a bowl.
    2. Add warm water to the bowl and make sure the raisins are covered. Let soak for about 10 minutes.
    3. After the 10 minutes, drain the raisins to remove all excess water and add to your recipe as specified.

My mother always did this, so I do, too. But especially for some holiday backing, I use brandy or bourbon for the liquid 😉

I've always simmered the raisins in apple juice.

My mom soaks her raisins in rum for practically every recipe she makes. It really adds another dimension to her baking!

Oooh! Tracy, that IS a whole new dimension to baking! Those would be great in Christmas cakes. Now you have me thinking about how I can incorporate them into something 😉
