Let’s get one thing out of the way before we get into this Peach Berry Smoothie Bowl: the actual smoothie part ain’t pretty. It’s definitely not one of those gorgeous, brightly coloured, I-need-to-drink-that-now! smoothies you see on Pinterest. But, I had to share it with you because the taste? ON. POINT.
My smoothies typically don’t end up looking like those other vibrant, beautiful smoothies for one good reason: I always have to add greens to them. Unless I’m adding a beet to it, which I like to do often, I’ll be guaranteed a bright, nice looking smoothie because the beet takes over everything. Like in my Berry Beet Ginger and Cranberry Apple Beet Smoothies. This smoothie doesn’t have beets in it, but luckily, as with most things in life, looks aren’t everything 😉
In this smoothie, the greens and the blueberries take over the colour, so what you’re left with isn’t the most visually appealing, but it tastes amazing…so all is forgiven. Something I always tell my kids if they’re hesitant to try a new food because it doesn’t “look” good, is: just because it doesn’t look good doesn’t mean it won’t taste good. 100% true Mama wisdom 😉
You can use whatever berries you happen to have on hand. Raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries are what I had and because it’s summer right now, they’re all fresh. If you can’t get them fresh or if it’s winter and they just aren’t available, frozen berries would work well too.
Of course, when it comes to the toppings, whatever you have goes. What you see in the pics above and below is what I had on hand but experiment with different toppings and see what you like best. Chia and hemp hearts always end up in all of my smoothies for a little protein boost. Nuts would also work well.
Play around with the combinations and see what you like. The best part about smoothies is changing up the ingredients to suit what you have on hand and what you feel like having!
How to Make a Peach Berry Smoothie Bowl
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 ripe peach
- 1 cup of berries (they can be fresh or frozen and you can use different types, just as long as they equal 1 cup)
- 1 handful of washed baby spinach
- 1 cup water or non-dairy milk
- Add frozen banana, peach, berries, spinach, and liquid to your blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour smoothie into a bowl.
- Top with the toppings.
